1. Scope and operator
RANRAN Solutions (the “Operator”) handles personal information and other user information in the Animeet app and official website (together, the “Service”) in accordance with Japan’s Act on the Protection of Personal Information and other applicable laws.
This policy explains the information collected, its purposes, visibility, transmission to external services, retention, deletion, and contact methods. Publishing this policy or using the Service alone is not treated as obtaining any separate consent required by law.
2. Information and purposes of use
Account and authentication information
User IDs, email addresses, display names, authentication-service identifiers, sign-in methods, and information necessary for authentication are used for registration, identity verification, account management, and abuse prevention. Email and password authentication is processed through Firebase Authentication. The Operator does not receive your Google or Apple password.
Viewing records and settings
Title IDs and names; Interested, Watching, and Watched status; ratings, thoughts, and notes; record timestamps; and notification days and times are used for My List, viewing records, reminders, cloud storage, and synchronization. Genres and other characteristics of highly rated titles are also used for recommendations.
Community information
Public ratings and reviews, thread posts, display names, author IDs, posting times, friend codes, requests and relationships, blocks, visibility settings, and message contents, senders, recipients, and timestamps are used to display posts, enable interaction, and control visibility.
Reports and inquiries
Reporter and reported-user IDs, title and post identifiers, report reasons, handling status, and inquiry names, reply addresses, message bodies, and optional attachments are used for investigation, responses, safety, and handling infringements and abuse.
Communication and technical information
Communications with the Service and external delivery providers involve processing IP addresses, request destinations, timestamps, user agents, and authentication and error logs. This information is used for delivery, authentication, troubleshooting, and unauthorized-access prevention. Operating-system and app versions supplied in inquiries are used to investigate problems.
Information is obtained through user input and actions, device communications, and authentication services selected by users. Except where permitted by law, we will provide necessary explanations and obtain consent before using it beyond these purposes.
3. Local storage, sync, and visibility
- Records without registration: My List, ratings, and notes are stored on your device. Catalog and image retrieval still require network communications; using the app without an account does not mean no information is transmitted externally.
- Synchronization after sign-in: Synchronization stores Interested, Watching, and Watched titles, ratings, thoughts, and notification settings in the cloud under your account.
- Public ratings, reviews, and threads: Display names, author identifiers, content, titles, and timestamps are visible even to people who are not signed in. Public ratings also contribute to aggregate title ratings.
- Sharing with friends: Friends can view lists for which sharing is enabled. Watched lists include ratings and thoughts; Watching and related list data include notification settings. Check your sharing settings before saving personal content.
- Public review settings: Changing a friend-facing display setting does not make a public review posted on a title page private.
- Messages: Messages are stored for viewing between the communicating parties. This feature does not provide end-to-end encryption. The Operator may access messages to the extent necessary to investigate reports, ensure safety, address problems, or meet legal obligations.
Published or shared material cannot be retrieved from copies such as screenshots saved by others. Do not post addresses, phone numbers, credentials, or information you do not want disclosed.
4. External services and transmissions
The main external services and transmitted information are listed below. Their providers’ own policies also apply.
Google: Firebase / Google Cloud
We use Firebase Authentication for authentication, Cloud Firestore for storage, Cloud Functions for server processing, and Firebase Hosting for web delivery. Account information, synchronized data, posts and messages, reports, and communication information needed for those functions are transmitted and processed.
Firebase privacy and security / Google Privacy Policy
Google Sign-In and Sign in with Apple, when selected
Authentication requests and communication information are sent to the provider. We receive the authentication result, identifiers, and permitted email addresses and names. If you use Apple’s Hide My Email, we receive a relay email address.
Kitsu: title image delivery
To display title images, devices access Kitsu image delivery destinations (kitsu.app, kitsu.io, and their image delivery subdomains), sending IP addresses, image URLs, and necessary communication information. Account email addresses and message contents are not sent for image retrieval. The title catalog uses information originating from Kitsu.
Google Fonts: app font delivery
If an app font is not available on the device, it may contact Google’s font delivery service, transmitting an IP address and communication information necessary to retrieve the font file.
Wikimedia: source of title descriptions
Some descriptions use public Japanese Wikipedia information retrieved by our server. Users’ viewing records, account information, and messages are not sent for this retrieval. Opening an external link causes direct communication with that site.
The app and official website currently do not serve third-party advertisements or incorporate advertising SDKs or behavioral analytics tracking tags. If these are introduced, we will explain the recipients, information collected or transmitted, and purposes in this policy or in the app before introduction, and provide consent or settings opportunities required by law and platform rules. Hosting providers nevertheless process communication information for delivery and abuse prevention.
5. Disclosure, contractors, and overseas processing
The Operator does not sell personal data. We do not provide personal data to third parties except with consent, where required by law, or where otherwise permitted by law, such as for protecting life, bodily safety, or property. Information users choose to post or share is provided to other users as described in Section 3.
We outsource authentication, storage, delivery, and other processing as needed for these purposes. We exercise necessary and appropriate supervision through provider selection, contracts, and access controls.
The Service performs server processing in Google’s US regions. Information may be processed outside Japan for external service delivery or maintenance. We do not guarantee storage and processing only in Japan. We review foreign privacy systems, contractors’ safeguards, and contracts, and implement protections, provide information, or obtain consent as required by applicable law. Contact the address in Section 10 with questions about overseas processing.
6. Retention and deletion
Account information, synchronized records, and posts are retained as needed to provide the Service. Information no longer needed is deleted or processed into a form that does not identify individuals.
- Deletion in the app: Use Settings → Delete account. You may need to re-enter a password or authenticate with an external provider to verify your identity.
- Deletion scope: The authentication account, profile, synchronized viewing records, public ratings and reviews, thread posts, friend relationships, and message threads and messages in which the account participates are processed for deletion. Message deletion affects other participants’ threads too. The library on the device used is cleared and scheduled notifications are canceled.
- Deletion delays: Associated cloud data is removed through separate processing. Changes can take time, and failures may require additional handling. Contact support if information remains after deletion.
- Information outside normal account deletion: Reports, inquiry histories, and security and troubleshooting logs are not included in the normal deletion process. They are retained only to the extent and for the period needed for disputes, legal obligations, and safety. Individual deletion requests are handled in accordance with law.
- External providers’ retention: Providers’ deletion periods apply to backup removal. Firebase states that removing Authentication credentials from active systems and backups can take up to 180 days after deletion begins. This does not establish a uniform 180-day retention period for all Service data.
- Uninstalling or signing out: Neither deletes your account or cloud records. We cannot remotely erase data from other devices, operating-system backups, or copies independently saved by recipients.
If you cannot use the app, follow the web instructions for deletion requests.
7. Security
We use encrypted communications, authentication, and data access controls to prevent unauthorized access and leakage. Measures proportionate to the Service include restricting administrative permissions, reviewing contractors, and responding to failures and leaks. Where required by law, we will report incidents to Japan’s Personal Information Protection Commission and notify affected individuals.
Contact us for details of security measures to the extent that disclosure does not compromise security.
8. Disclosure, correction, and other requests
Individuals or lawful representatives may, as provided by law, request notice of purposes of use, disclosure, correction, addition or deletion of retained personal data, suspension of use or erasure, cessation of third-party provision, and disclosure of third-party provision records.
Contact us with your request. We may ask for the minimum additional information necessary to identify the account and verify identity or representative authority. After verification, we will respond without delay in accordance with law and explain any inability to comply in whole or in part. Do not email passwords or verification codes.
9. Children and young users
The Service is for users aged 13 and over. Those under 18 must obtain consent from a parent or other legal guardian. If we discover registered information about a child under 13, we will verify the circumstances and take measures such as restricting use or deleting information. Parents and guardians may contact us with concerns.
10. Contact
Upon request, we will promptly disclose the personal information handling business operator’s name or legal name, address, and, for a corporation, representative’s name. Use the subject “Animeet operator information request”.

11. Changes to this policy
We review this policy when laws, features, or information handling change. Changes and their effective dates will be shown on this page. Changes significantly affecting users will be announced in advance in the app or on the official website. Consent will be obtained separately for changes that require it by law.
